Very different stops. Moonstone Beach In Cambria is a hwy 1 bypass strip along the ocean whereas SLO is a city away from the ocean off hwy 101 a little less than 2 hours further after taking hwy 46 east to Paso Robles then south on 101 over the grade.

We are considering travelling from San Jose down Route 1 to San Luis Obispo at the beginning of November. Is this an OK time to do this drive and how long will it take without any stops, just an overnight stop somewhere about halfway, any recommendations for eateries and hotels on the way would be appreciated. The whole drive is only about 5 1/2 hours, so an overnight stay is not a must. The good news is that there will probably not be fog, but rain is a possibility. If you do want to do an …

The whole drive is only about 5 1/2 hours, so an overnight stay is not a must. The good news is that there will probably not be fog, but rain is a possibility. If you do want to do an overnight, I would suggest staying in Carmel. It's beautiful and there are lots of hotels and restaurants. I haven't stayed there in several years, so any recommendation would not be up to date.
