ISRO will be responsible for the development of spacecraft and launch. The project will be effectively managed and monitored through the established practices prevailing at ISRO. The mission is expected to be completed within 36 months of approval with the participation of industry and academia.

With the Union Cabinet’s nod for Chandrayaan 4, ISRO aims to land on the moon and retrieve samples by 2027. The mission is seen as a stepping stone toward sending an Indian cosmonaut to the moon.

The Union Cabinet has approved four key space missions and doubled the budget for Gaganyaan, India’s first human spaceflight mission. The new missions include Chandrayaan-4, Venus Orbiter Mission, Next Generation Launch Vehicle,

Chandrayaan-4 will land on the Moon, collect samples, and return to Earth, paving the way for future missions.

Chandrayaan- mission would enable India to be self-sufficient in critical foundational technologies for manned missions, lunar sample return and scientific analysis of Lunar samples.

The Union Cabinet approved expanding the Mission to include preparatory measures for an eventual manned moon mission.

It will develop and demonstrate the technologies to come back to Earth after successfully landing on the Moon and also collect lunar samples and analyse them on Earth. "This Chandrayaan-4 mission will achieve the foundational technologies capabilities eventually for an Indian landing on the moon (planned by year 2040) and return safely back to Earth,

The mission is expected to be completed within 36 months of approval and will demonstrate ISRO’s space-docking capability as well as sample-collection skills. It will have multiple launches

According to the official statement, the Chandrayaan-4 mission is a precursor to India's ambition of landing astronauts on the moon by 2040.

India’s space vision has been extended with the approval for the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), which will serve as the country’s first space station by 2035.

The Union Cabinet has approved extensions for the Chandrayaan-4 mission, allocating Rs 2,104 crore and setting a 36-month timeline. The mission will feature five modules in two stacks, with plans to collect and return lunar samples using upgraded LVM3 rockets.
