UFC 306 went down this Saturday, and it was the most expensive event the promotion has ever put on given the production demands of the Sphere in Las Vegas. It was an ambitious move by the UFC, and Dana White hyped it up to be the greatest sporting event ever.

Earlier this year, Dana White, the UFC’s longtime impresario, was taking in a U2 concert at the Sphere, the stately pleasuredome in his hometown of Las Vegas. The concert was fine. But White, being White, was seized by an idea. Why not hold a UFC card there?
