Renault's Alpine Formula One team will use Mercedes engines and gearboxes from the sport's new era starting in 2026, they announced on Tuesday.

The deal with Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains and Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix is a power unit and gearbox agreement.

Alpine effectively takes the Mercedes customer deal from Aston Martin, which from 2026 is becoming Honda’s works partner in Formula 1. Mercedes also supplies McLaren and Williams—and will do so through at least 2030—as well as its own works team.

After decades of on-again, off-again running as a works operation, the Renault F1 program is officially a customer.

The Alpine Formula 1 team announced on Tuesday it will switch to Mercedes engines from the 2026 season as it bids to keep pace with its rivals.

With Renault ending its F1 power unit program, Alpine will have to turn to an outside supplier for the first time.
