The crypto industry, an institution founded on the principle of getting the government’s greedy hands off the people’s currency, is booming. The reason? They may have finally convinced the government to get its hands on bitcoin.

Trump’s current stance on crypto is a major departure from his last term as president. In the summer of 2019, Trump criticized cryptocurrency on social media, claiming it could be used to facilitate illegal activities. And during his presidency, the Trump administration’s regulatory actions included the SEC’s controversial lawsuit against Ripple.

Bitcoin climbed to over $90,000 by about 9:30 a.m. EST, or 2:30 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time (prices for the constantly traded crypto market are most commonly referenced in GMT).
