No trace of a highly-pathogenic bird flu has been found in dairy herds in Massachusetts, state officials said Monday.

Massachusetts health and agriculture officials said they detected no trace of bird flu after testing all dairy herds across 95 licensed farms.

On Monday state officials announced they had completed testing on all 95 licensed farms in Massachusetts that have dairy herds, the first state in the nation to do so. The results were “100 percent negative.” The testing program is likely to be repeated on a regular basis going forward, and could serve as a national model.

State testing from all 95 Massachusetts dairy farms showed a 100% negative result for the dangerous strain of influenza, according to the state Department of Agricultural Resources.

All Massachusetts dairy farms are 100 percent free of bird flu, state officials announced on Monday. At least 14 states across the country since March have herds that have tested positive for avian influenza, the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources said.

On, south of the Jezreel Valley in northern Israel, in the second case of the season. The disease was traced to four poultry sheds housing some 34,000 hens used for breeding chickens for meat. The first bird flu was identified earlier this month at Moshav Nahalal in the Jezreel Valley.
