Memphis basketball trailed for much of the game, but P.J. Haggerty's key basket with 31 seconds left helped the Tigers to their win over UNLV.

UNLV had Memphis on the ropes late in Saturday’s matinee showdown at the Thomas & Mack Center, holding a 61-56 lead with eight minutes to play. Considering the Scarlet and Gray also have one of college basketball’s best closers in sophomore point guard D.

PJ Haggerty scored 28 points and led a late rally to help Memphis to an 80-74 victory over UNLV at the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday afternoon. Dedan Thomas Jr. had 22 for the Rebels (1-1), but was held without an assist for the first time in his UNLV career.

OFFENSE The offensive production from UNLV wasn’t the same as it has been throughout the season. Hawaii’s defense let up more rushing yards against UNLV’s offense. Hajj-Malik Williams had himself a day on the ground rushing for 122 yards and breaking free for a 23 yard touchdown.
